The second stage of Eberhart Building opened.

Randy Shoe Sides became the first non-traditional student elected president of the Student Government Association (SGA).

For the first time, UNCG students were allowed to take up to twelve hours of ROTC courses at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (A&T) State University for credit.

The Placement Office was renamed the Career Planning & Placement Center.

The Faculty String Quartet was formed. The group held their first performance during the Spring of 1978.
