<p>
Elizabeth "Betty" Bachman of Wapakoneta, Ohio, served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II.  She worked to train new women recruits as the acting platoon sergeant for the 2nd Platoon at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Bachman and De Long had an intense, possibly romantic, personal relationship.
