Overall Distribution of UNCG Libraries Collections Cuts for 2011/12
This web page is designed to keep the University Libraries community apprised of our response to the unprecedented economic challenges facing North Carolina and the country.
In order to implement its portion of the system-wide budget reduction required for UNCG in 2011-12, the University Libraries have reduced the collections budget over $1.1 million. The Libraries also eliminated positions and made even deeper cuts in areas such as equipment and travel. The collections budget cuts were assigned as follows:

We hope that all faculty and students will understand that serious reductions in the collections budget had to be made this year. The effects of these cuts will be felt campus-wide; however, everyone should be assured that the Libraries will continue to provide access to the vast majority of journals, databases, and other resources that have been available in the past and that we will continue to provide excellent public services for faculty and students, including a very efficient interlibrary loan service for books and journal articles.
Comments and Feedback
Budgetary issues for the UNCG Libraries will be ongoing. The price increases for journals, databases, and books will almost certainly continue to climb at a much faster rate than our budget. In addressing this ongoing funding crisis, the University Libraries are working to maintain essential services and resources and to maximize our flexibility to address budgetary issues. Over the next year, library faculty and staff will focus their efforts on how best to serve the UNCG community with significantly reduced resources. We encourage faculty comments about the impact of these reductions on your work and practice, and we welcome suggestions for optimizing library services and access to resources within our current fiscal constraints.
