What audiobooks does UNCG have access to?

UNCG has access to approximately 1,162 audiobooks through NetLibrary. There are also a number of audiobooks available for checkout in the library itself.

How do I find the audiobook I'm searching for?

You can search NetLibrary for books and audiobooks will automatically be included in the search. If you are interested in only seeing what audiobooks are available, you can use the Advanced Search and select the Audiobooks format, or go to the Audiobooks Center to browse all available audiobooks.

Do I need to set up an account?

Yes, you will need an account to check and access the full content of audiobooks, just like you would need one for e-books. If you already have a NetLibrary account, then you just need to log in to that account. If you do not have an account, you will need to register for one. Make certain when registering that the UNCG Libraries logo is present on the web registration page to ensure that you are associated as a UNCG patron.

Do I need to check an audiobook out?

You can download a small preview of the book without checking it out, but in order to listen to the entire audiobook you will need to check it out. You will need to sign up for a NetLibrary account to check out a book.

How long can I check an audiobook out?

An audiobook can be checked out for a three-week period. It may not be checked in early, but it may be renewed for an additional three-week period. At the end of this time, the license will expire and the audiofile will be unplayable.

How do I renew an audiobook?

You renew an audiobook by logging into your NetLibrary account. If you attempt to open an expired audiobook, you will be prompted to log in to your account in order to renew the book.

How do I download an audiobook?

Simply click on the "Download this Audiobook" link and NetLibrary will ask you to choose CD or Radio Quality download. The CD quality download provides a much larger file and should probably only be used by those patrons with broadband Internet access.

Download time varies by the length of book and the quality

Can more than one person check out an audiobook at the same time?

Yes, any number of people can check out an audiobook at the same time.

What software will I need to use audiobooks?

Any desktop or laptop that has one of the following programs (Windows Media Player 9+ , Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2+, or Nullsoft Winamp v5+) will allow you to play NetLibrary audiobooks.

Will the audiobooks play on my Mac?

The only way to play the NetLibrary audiobooks on a Mac is to download the free Windows Media Player for Mac.

What listening devices can I put the audiobooks on?

Any listening device that is capable of playing Windows Media Files (.WMA) will play NetLibrary audiobooks. A list of devices can be found at http://www.playsforsure.com/findportabledevices.aspx. Ipods do not support the WMA format and are not able to play NetLibrary audiobooks.

How long will it take to download an audiobook?

That will depend on the quality of the download and the speed of your connection. The CD quality download will be approximately 145 MB for the average audiobook, and the Radio quality download will be approximately 27 MB. If you have a cable modem, the CD quality download should take about 13 minutes and the Radio quality download should take 2 minutes. For a DSL connection, CD quality should take 1 hour, 15 minutes and Radio quality 15 minutes. For those with dial-up connections, the CD quality download should take 6 hours and the radio quality should take 1 hour.

Can I download it to a public computer?

You should not download audiobooks to public computers. In most cases, they will not play properly and you will be unable to transfer them to a listening device.
