Description: Five Red Cross workers in fatigues sit on a bench on a tarmac in front of an airplane while in Australia in November 1944. The women, stationed at the U.S. Pacific Theater headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia, appear to be wearing the WAC (Women's Army Corps) summer work uniform with the Red Cross overseas cap. The Red Cross was authorized to be issued army uniforms and supplies when needed.
