BIOGRAPHY

Idele Singletary Meng was born in Austin, Texas, but later moved to Carpinteria, California. In February 1944, at the age of 49, she joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC). In April of that year, she attended basic training at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, then later served at Pratt Army Air Field with the Army Air Forces, rising to the rank of corporal.
