BIOABSTRACT

Elizabeth Ryan Wiviott (1921-2003) served in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from 1943 to 1951.


BIOGRAPHY

Elizabeth Iddings Ryan Wiviott was born on 31 December 1921. She attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and graduated in 1942.

Wiviott enlisted in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in 1943. She completed basic training in Northampton, Massachusetts, and the served in the Norfolk Navy Yard in Norfolk, Virginia; the Boston Navy Yard in Massachusetts; and the Boston Naval Base. She was released from active duty on 22 June 1947 and continued on inactive status for several years. She was discharged on July 1951.

Elizabeth Wiviott met Max D. Wiviott while on duty in Boston. They were married on 8 February 1947. Elizabeth Wiviott died on 21 June 2003.
