Having played a pivotal role in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and through community involvement and ROTC programs, Greensboro came to the forefront again during World War II as it was transformed through the massive military presence associated with the Overseas Replacement Depot and Basic Training Center on its eastern edge.
