1880-1915

Fodie M. Buie of Robeson County, North Carolina, attended the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial College in 1893. She served as Dr. Charles McIver's secretary until 1898 when she was hired by the National Museum in Washington, D.C., as a stenographer. After six months probation she was promoted to the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

Scrapbook contains photographs and newspapers clippings.

Contents include beginnings of an autobiography geared to his children which begins with a childhood story about a child slave called 'Dick' and another called 'Uncle Make McNeill', memories of his father and the Civil War, a biographical form for the 'Men of Mark in North Carolina' noting f sucesses and failures, notes of travels, NcIver's early courthsip with Lula Martin McIver, an outline for a chapter autobiography.

These reports all addressed to S. N. Finger the N. C. Superintendent of Public Instruction are by Edwin A. Alderman, Charles Duncan McIver, J. Y. Joyner, M. C. S. Noble, Alex Graham, E. P. Moses, E. L. Hughes and J. J. Blair, Topics include, statistics of teacher attendance, recommendations for improvement in schools, teacher training, and certificates awarded to persons in the institute.
