?ǣReports of Conductors of County Institutes in North Carolina?ǥ is a pamphlet of reports written from 1889 - 1890 by the administrators of the Teacher Institutes which were designed to educate persons in North Carolina counties in the teaching profession, prior to the establishment of the State Normal and Industrial School. These reports all addressed to S. N. Finger the N. C. Superintendent of Public Instruction are by Edwin A. Alderman, Charles Duncan McIver, J. Y. Joyner, M. C. S. Noble, Alex Graham, E. P. Moses, E. L. Hughes and J. J. Blair, Topics include, statistics of teacher attendance, recommendations for improvement in schools, teacher training, and certificates awarded to persons in the institute.

Handwritten draft of a report given by the visiting committee to the the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina in 1890. The report comments on the many sucessful improvements mad to the university with better equipments and facilities and overall conduct of the student body. Topics include the Philanthropic and Dialectic Society, recommendations for the Bible to be taught as an elective, new equipment in all departments, a recommendation to appoint of a Dr. T.H. Morgan of John Hopkins University to the chair of Biology, W.L. Steele, C.M. Cooke, S.M. Finger, J.A. Gilmer, A. H. Merritt, J.C. Seaboro and a resoulution from the class of 1894.

Speeches and published statements made by Dr. Charles Duncan McIver and essays about him and the foundations of the State Normal and Industrial College. Topics include, a survey request to Dr. McIver to the young women of the college, a pamphlet from the Educational Exhibit of the 1896 State Fair, an essay by Elizabeth Phillips, an essay called ?ǣResume of History of the Woman?��s College of the University of North Carolina?ǥ, another essay about the college?��s history from 1941, and newspaper essays by Dr. McIver one of which is from 1897 and the other from 1898. An original draft of the first essay is also included.

Architectural drawing of the State Normal & Industrial School by Epps & Hackett Architects in 1891. In this drawing the Main Building (on the left) and the Brick Dormitory (on the right) can be seen. The Foust building, designed by Epps & Hackett of Greensboro, North Carolina, was opened in 1892 and wings were added in 1895. From 1892 to 1908, the building was called Main Building and from 1908 to 1960 it was called Administration Building. In 1960, the building was named in honor of Julius Isaac Foust, president of college from 1906 to 1934. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Brick Dormitory, designed by Epps & Hackett of Greensboro, North Carolina, opened in 1892 and was one of the original buildings and primary dormitory. It was expanded in 1895 and included a kitchen, an infirmary room, and a dining hall. The dormitory was destroyed by fire on January 20, 1904, with all of the residents escaping unharmed.
