Gender: UNKNOWN

Ethnicity: UNKNOWN

Biographical/Historical note: The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Ad Hoc Committee on University Racial Policies was formed in the fall of 1968 as a result of the Upward Bound program leaving UNCG after accusing faculty and staff of racial discrimination. The committee met numerous times through May 1969 and produced a report addressing six basic areas: (1) registration of black students, (2) housing of minority students, (3) social and intellectual climate for minority students, (4) employment policies, (5) relationships of curriculum to racial matters, and (6) special programs sponsored by the university. The members of the committee were Elaine Burgess (chair), Robert Calhoun, Shirley Flynn, Annie Joyce King, Barbara Wesley. In addition, four students, two white and two black, were invited as ex officio members in late February 1969, at the request of student groups. These members were Marylin Moorer, Sharon Wood, Fayma Howell, and Karen Bickett.
