Biographical/Historical note:
Mrs. Charles Bowles was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. After marrying Charles Bowles, a Methodist minister, the couple resided in Belmont, Wadesboro, Statesville, and Charlotte, before settling back in Greensboro in 1955. Bowles was active in her church, West Market Street United Methodist Church, where her husband served as pastor until 1963. Dr. Bowles also served as chaplain at Greensboro College during his tenure at West Market.
