The United Presbyterian Church in the USA (UPCUSA) was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America and the United Presbyterian Church of North America. It merged with the Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1983 and became the Presbyterian Church (USA). The UPCUSA leadership strongly supported progressive causes, such as civil rights and feminism.
