Biographical/Historical note: Lawrence “Larry” Neal was born on September 3, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia. He received an undergraduate degree from Lincoln University in 1961 and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. He was one of the lead scholars in the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s and 1970s.
