Biographical/Historical note: Flowers was one of the Ku Klux Klan and Nazi party members arrested following the November 3, 1979, Death to the Klan rally in Greensboro, N.C., where five protesters were shot and killed. At the time of his arrest, Flowers was a 33-year-old married textile worker and Army veteran living in Lincon County, N.C. Flowers was charged with murder, but was acquitted in 1980. He was also found not to be liable in a 1985 civil suit filed by survivors of the shootings.
