Description: This October 18, 1968 article published in the Guilford College student newspaper, The Guilfordian, announces the formation of Brother and Sisters in Blackness (BASIB). The group included many of Guilford’s black students and was organized, not for the sake of inciting “militant action” but rather for the purpose of providing a space on campus where black students might maintain and develop an identity and to offer opportunities to the whole campus to learn about the significance and importance of African American history and culture.
