The 1971 yearbook of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Pine Needles, depicts a growing African American presence on campus amid a continued awareness of social issues. Black entertainment included Aretha Franklin and Lorraine Hansberry's play, “To Be Young, Gifted & Black.” Candid and club photos show little integration of clubs and student activities, Sample pages of class portraits show a representative black to white student ratio.
