Biographical/Historical abstract: Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

Description: The 1979 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, shows several areas of integration at the school. Included are photos of Janice, an African American group that performed at homecoming, and a black and white woman embracing at Serendipity. Also included are portraits of African American faculty and staff, integrated sports teams and student organizations, and candid photos from campus life.
