Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

The 1976 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, shows continued progress in integrating the campus community. Included are two pages dedicated to the student organization, Brothers and Sisters in Blackness (BASIB). The large student-run organization brought civil rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory to campus. Also included are photos of the integrated volleyball team and cheerleading squad.
