Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

The 1966 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, highlights the involvement of African American students, seniors James McCorkle and Linda Moore and freshman Gertrude Judd of Greensboro. Featured is a candid photo of a white student tutoring local African American children. Also included is a photo of African American singing group The Platters performing at the school's homecoming.
