Biographical/Historical abstract: Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

Description: The 1964 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, reflects the increased diversity on campus. Included is the senior portrait of African student Washington Walusala Rakama, from Kenya. Rakama was also a member of the Society for the Advancement of Management. Also from Kenya, Ayub Watakila is pictured with the class of 1965. African American students were also represented, including sophomores James McCorkle and Linda Moore.
