The Quaker, 1961

Date: 1961

Author: Guilford College

Biographical/Historical abstract: Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

Additional contributor:

Description: The 1961 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, reflects an increased religious diversity on campus. The establishment of the Jewish Hillel society and the Catholic Neuman Club shows an increased population of non-Protestant students, which is a departure from the college's original population. Also included is a candid photo of African Americans exchanging gifts, although the context is unclear.
