Guilford College, a Quaker-supported four-year liberal arts school in Greensboro, N.C., was chartered in 1834 and opened in 1837 as New Garden Boarding School.

The 1954 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, shows far less diversity in the student body than in previous years. In the senior class is Yasuko Maekawa from Tokyo, Japan and there are also images from the Japanese themed 1953 Junior-Senior banquet and dance.
