Description: This November 20, 1957 editorial published in the Greensboro College student newspaper, The Collegian, discusses a controversial State Student Legislature (SSL) resolution which urged the “repeal of all State laws and constitutional provisions in prohibition of intermarriage of the races.” The SSL was an assemblage of college student from across the state. This particular bill was heavily debated and speakers made it clear that voting for the bill did not necessarily condone interracial marriage, but rather repealing laws against such marriages was an effort “to protect the civil liberties of the individual.” The article includes the entire language of the resolution. The article reports that the bill ultimately passed and that Greensboro College did not vote for that particular bill.
