The Baldwin School: Yesterday and Today

The Baldwin School, Yesterday and Today

Interviews

Janice Clark
Clip 5—View of public schools

JD: How did you look at the public school students when you were in Baldwin Chapel? Was there a separation there?

JC: Yeah, yeah, it was. It was like, I don’t know. Our school was the better school, you know. And then they were not learning, they were not being taught right. I just felt like they weren’t being taught right. They were being taught wrong because they were taught evolution and we were taught creation. And we felt like they were taught wrong, you know. So we were better than they was.

JD: Do you think they felt the same way about themselves?

JC: Yeah, and they treated us like that, too. “Ya’ll don’t know nothing!” We’d get in fights all the time. Public school with the church school, we’d get in fights all the time.
