The Baldwin School: Yesterday and Today

The Baldwin School, Yesterday and Today

Interviews

Barbara Collier
Clip 3—Switching to Public School

AH: When you went from private school to public school, what was the difference that you noticed? Or did you notice a difference?

BC: Oh there was a lot of difference. We didn’t have that close knit, family feeling. And I felt so, like, isolated. I didn’t feel that warm, you know—I didn’t feel like anybody really cared about anybody like Miss Baldwin did. I knew she cared because she walked around with that switch all day. You know, if you wanted attention you got it right there. If you thought it was good or bad, you still got attention. Public schools, they might notice you once a day. She knew where you were at all times. She was something else.
