David M. Guion

Assistant Music Librarian

I catalog the musical scores for Jackson Library. When anyone goes to the catalog and finds what they need, someone like me has put the record in the catalog and makes sure that it is kept up to date and accurate. People don't often see catalogers when they come to the library (and as I divide my time between the main library and the music library, I'm harder to find than most!), but neither library patrons nor other librarians can get much work done without the work of catalogers! To help other music catalogers, I have compiled information to help assigning dates for undated musical scores.

When I'm not being a librarian, I enjoy musicological research, photography, making candy, and especially, playing trombone. In 2000, I participated in the Illinois Brass Band's tour of England. The picture above is me at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. Another librarian in the band thought we ought to take each other's picture there. The picture to the right is one my wife took in the village of Dobcross, when we participated in the Saddleworth marching competitions on my birthday! I am also the article library editor for the Online Trombone Journal. Anyone interested in having a trombone-related article published in a refereed journal should contact me at david@trombone.org.
