Charles M. Adams, Librarian
Woman's College Univ. of N.C.
Greensboro, N.C.
Dear Mr. Adams:
I was pleased to have yours and Prof. Wilson's cordial letters, and to
know that your Library would welcome a Lois Lenski Collection of
manuscripts, illustrations and related materials. Several other
institutions have started collections of my work, to which I contribute
annually. But I have had a warm spot in my heart for North Carolina ever
since my sojourn there for writing BLUE RIDGE BILLY, and would like to
be represented there.
...
My idea would be to start by sending you a portfolio of assorted
illustrations, showing different techniques for different age-groups,
some reference materials - articles published and unpublished by and
about myself and my work, a few duplicate copies of some of my foreign
edition, and miscellaneous items. Then, each year, to keep adding
various items to enrich the collection.
...
I feel that the material will be most useful in an institution where-
1 - Children's Literature courses are given,
2 - Teachers' training courses with emphasis on reading are given,
3 - where creative activities are important and are stressed,
4 - where courses in Library Science are given, and
5 - where graduate work is being done in field concerned with children
...
If the Woman's College provides these facilities to its students,
then I shall be most happy to give you a Collection. The enclosed catalog
of the L.L. Collection at State Teachers College in Buffalo, N. Y. will
give you an idea of what I have in mind, tho some of the same items
cannot be duplicated.
Sincerely,
Lois Lenski
