Authority: How trustworthy is this information?

"Who wrote this? Do they know what they are talking about?

The authority of information is an element that's often overlooked but extremely important. It's even more important nowadays, when so much unedited, unreviewed information is available over the World Wide Web.

This question may be fairly simple to answer - sometimes books will even provide brief biographies of their authors - or extremely difficult, especially in the case of webpages. (We'll discuss how to establish authorship of a webpage in Chapter Six.)

Yes, we're telling you to "Question Authority!"
