Health Source Consumer Edition
Provides full text for over 280 health periodicals and numerous pamphlets, reference books and other information sources designed for the general public. Off-campus use restricted to UNCG community.

NC Health Info
NC Health Info offers access to web sites of local health services, providers, and programs serving residents of North Carolina. Through links to the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINEplus web site, users can access quality consumer health information on a wide range of health topics.

From the American Academy of Family Physicians, this site offers patient education documents for common medical concerns and conditions. The sections include Health Info Handouts, AAFP Family Health Facts, Drug Information, Herbal and Alternative Remedies, FP Web Directory, and Self-Care Flowcharts.

HealthCentral
This site is a network of information services providing consumers with highly personalized interactive tools, including custom newsletters, personalized health information pages and personalized risk assessments. HealthCentral is one of the few sites to actually feature a medical librarian and answers individual e-mail from people around the world on how to find online health and medical information.

InteliHealth
A joint venture between Aetna U.S. HealthcareTM and the Johns Hopkins University Hospital and Harvard Medical School and University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

Mayo Clinic.Com
Developed and reviewed by Mayo Clinic physicians and scientists, this site hosts a wealth of evidence-based, up-to-date information on various health and disease conditions

National Health Information Center
NHIC puts health professionals and consumers who have health questions in touch with those organizations that are best able to provide answers. The site includes the Health Information Resource Database which contains information on 1,500 organizations and government offices.

Consumer healthcare information that helps people play an active role in managing their own health.Access to health and wellness news, support communities, interactive health management tools and more.

eMedicine Consumer Health
In May 2003, eMedicine launched a new consumer health site- www.eMedicinehealth.com. With more than 5500 pages of health content, the site contains articles written by physicians for patients and consumers. Each article is reviewed by 2 physicians and a PharmD. Current medical information is available in the Health Resource, First Aid and Emergencies, and Lifestyle and Wellness Centers.

Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Complete Home Medical Guide
The online version of the Third Revised Edition, 1995, of this standard consumer health text. There are 34 chapters.

The Merck Manual of Medical Information - Home Edition
The Online interactive edition of "The Merck Manual of Medical Information - Home Edition," a comprehensive consumer text. The interactive edition takes a faster Internet connection and may not work on all browsers.


Drug Information Resources

Drug InfoNet
This site provides not only prescription drug information and information from the drug manufacturers, but also provides information on diseases and links to various healthcare organizations and government sites.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
The Food and Drug Administration oversees pharmaceuticals as well as medical devices and their approval. Searching the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research section will link to original approval letters as well as professional and consumer information on prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

PDR Family Guides Drug Information
This database provides comprehensive consumer-friendly information on prescription and over-the-counter drugs available through pharmacies. Developed by the Physicians Desk Reference staff, this information includes descriptions of side effects and drug interactions.

RxList - The Internet Drug Index
A very useful drug index with an excellent search engine.Provides information on both a consumer and professional level. An advanced search engine is also available which allows searching by drug name, keyword, imprint code, NDC and medical terminology as well.
