Enter your search in the default search. The deafult search looks in the title, subject headings, and abstracts for a broader search. Subject Terms if selected from the drop-down menu will search only the subject headings, giving you a more precise search.
Enter your search as specifically as possible:
e.g. corn laws
e.g. runaway slavesFor more complex topics, use the search connectors and or or to combine different terms:
e.g. north carolina and slavery
e.g. (women or gender) and reformationTo enter any search, click on the "Search" button.
Enter the author's name, last name first, and select Author from the dropdown menu.order:

Search results will be displayed 20 at a time.
To view the full record (complete citation, abstract, documentation information), click on the entry. To save items, click on "add to folder." You can later view your folder and email, save or print those items.
Truncation will search for more forms of a word. Use * to find all forms of a root word:
e.g. slave* will search slave, slaves, slaveryTo limit results to English, enter "english" in the Language line of the search screen.
You can limit by publication date, historical period and languate in teh section "Search options."
