Import References into EndNote Web
Not all search platforms or search systems work with EndNote Web. Different search systems (library catalog, Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, etc.) have different ways of getting references into EndNote Web.
Importing citations from the library catalog

- Search your topic
- Choose a reference by using the checkbox next to it.
- Hit Show Only Marked Records (on the right).
- Choose Download/Email Marked Records
- Hit the Download link that appears next to the heading "Detailed Format."
- If you are using Firefox, you should have the opportunity to save this as a .txt file to your desktop
- If you are using Internet Explorer, you will probably see your citations listed in your browser. In the IE File menu, choose Save As and save the file as a .txt to your desktop
Next import citations into EndNote Web:

Import References into Endnote Desktop
The process of importing references from a search system into EndNote is the same for all databases on the same platform (EBSCOhost, CSA Illumina, etc.). IF a database or other search system is compatible with EndNote, it will let you add references to EndNote in one of the following ways:
- Some of the databases to which the library subscribes allow you export references directly into EndNote (once you have searched the database and identified which references you want, of course!).
- Some subscription databases require that you to save your references as a file on your computer before opening EndNote, locating the file that includes your references, and using the EndNote import command to bring the references into EndNote.
- Some freely available databases or search systems can be searched from within EndNote. NB: EndNote comes with connection files that also allow you to search some subscription databases from within EndNote, but these can be problematic and you might need to contact Thomson EndNote tech support for help.
