- About you
- About me
- Goals of this orientation:
- Describe the basic library services;
- Demonstrate off-campus access to e-resources;
- Explore the types of business databases provided by the library;
- Understand when to search an article database and when to search Journal Finder;
- Explore the library catalog and our e-books.
- For almost all library e-resources, there is no log-in when you are on-campus.
- The library uses an "EZproxy" server to provide off-campus access, so you just need to fill out this form when you see it:

- Usually, you only need to do that once per session (i.e. you can use multiple databases at one sitting without having to log-in each time).
- Troubleshooting Online Access FAQ (includes whom to call or email for help, if necessary)
1. Article databases
Example article database:
Business Source Premier (Ebsco)
- Our largest database for business articles.
- Provides thousands of journals, magazines, and newspapers.
- Also provides country economic reports from the Economist Intelligence Unit, Global Insight, ICON Group, and CountryWatch.

- Covers 1984-present, with earlier coverage for hundreds of top business journals.
- More info
Basic techniques for article searching:
Combine keywords with "AND"
ex: wal-mart AND market strategy
AND
|
|
Search for related terms with "OR"
ex: wal-mart OR sam's club

OR
|
Using parenthesis, you can use OR and AND at the same time.
ex: (wal-mart OR sam's club ) and sales
Truncate words that have various endings
ex: (wal-mart OR sams' club) and sales and Europe*
[Europe* would also search for "European"]
Journal Finder links in databases
- Below is an example from Business Source Premier
- Most other databases also provide a Journal Finder link, but that link may be called something else, like "Check for full text availability of this item."

When to search Journal Finder directly
- When you already know exactly what article you need, search Journal Finder directly (it's also on the library homepage).
- Journal Finder covers all 40,100 journals, magazines, and newspapers available online or in print through the library.
Exercise: Professor Allen tells you to read this article? Do we have it online? If so, from what source?
Berry, S. (1995). Automobile Prices in Market Equilibrium. Econometrica , 63, 841-890.
