National Mental Health Information Center
The Center for Mental Health Services leads national efforts to improve prevention and mental health treatment services for all Americans. CMHS pursues its mission by helping States improve and increase the quality and range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services for people with mental health problems, their families, and communities.

The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Formerly tknown as the State Children's Health Insurance Program.
A state and federal partnership that targets uninsured children and pregnant women in families with incomes too high to qualify for most state Medicaid programs, but often too low to afford private coverage. The website is part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

American Public Human Services Association
This association's mission is "to develop, promote and implement public human service policies that improve the health and well-being of families, children, and adults."

Urban Institute
This nonpartisan organization's mission is "to sharpen thinking about society's problems and efforts to solve them, improve government decisions and their implementation, and increase citizen's awareness about important public choices."

Almanac of Policy Issues
Background information and links on major U.S. public policy issues such as children's health insurance, Medicare, child care, welfare, and education.

Directory of North Carolina State and County Officials
State information similar to that above but also names, addresses, and telephone numbers for the government officials in the 100 counties.


State and Local Government on the Net
Guide to government sponsored Internet sites for the entire United States for city, county, state, and federal agencies. Clicking on words such as "bureaus," "divisions," and "agencies" on the home for the main agency frequently will yield a list of personnel.
