OAS (Organization of American States)
The OAS is the world's oldest regional organization, dating back to 1899. The OAS currently has 35 member states. In addition, the Organization has granted permanent observer status to 62 states as well as to the European Union. Look in the Media Center and Information Center for reports

African Union
International organization founded as the Organization of African Unity to promote cooperation among the independent nations of Africa. Look in the Documents section for reports.

Covers popular newspapers, databases, historical databases, newspapers in the library, and newspaper homepages.

Lexis-Nexis Academic
Full text articles, especially current information, from journals, magazines, television and radio news transcripts, U.S. and foreign newspapers, newsletters, etc. Selected newspapers: New York Times, the Washington Post, the Financial Times (London), the Manchester Guardian, and the Times (London). Dates of coverage: early 1980s to date.

  • In the "Search terms" box, enter your topic. e.g. AIDS in South Africa
  • Specify Date box: note that the default setting is for the previous 2 years (A search for information on AIDS may need to be for six months or a year since ther is so much information available)
  • Click on Search to display the resulting citations
  • Too much information? A topic such as AIDS in South Africa will yield hundreds of articles. Go back one step and narrow your by entering more words  e.g.  prevention of AIDS in South Africa
  • To see where your search terms are mentioned in the text of the articles, change Show List to Show Expanded List
  • On the left side of the screen you can choose the media source of the information, e.g. newspapers
  • For full article, click on the article title
  • To print, email, download, or export your results, click on the icons in the upper right of the screen

  • On the first screen of Lexis-Nexis check the box for TV and Radio Broadcast Transcripts
  • Uncheck box for Major U.S. and World Publications
  • Enter your search. e.g. prevention of AIDS in South Africa. Click Search
  • Left side of the screen: click News Transcript

  • Once you are in Lexis-Nexis, click on the SOURCE tab at the top.
  • Under Publication Type choose the category NEWS.
  • Select the category - the folder icon - to choose your specific source for example newspapers.
  • Select as many as you would like to search withing - up to 50 of them at one time.
  • Then click the OK to contiue button on the right side.
  • Now enter your search. e.g. prevention of AIDS in South Africa. Click Search - your search is now limited only to this country's publications you selected.

Websites for newspapers and news sites worldwide. Only the most recent issues of newspapers may be available online<. Access to earlier news articles may require paying a fee.

  • Mainly full text articles from popular magazines (Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report) and scholarly journals (Social Forces, Social Research, Journal of Social Issues)
  • Worldwide coverage
  • Search a variety of subject headings for the same concept

CBS
CBS (Columbia Broadcasting Corporation) is a mass media company with constituent parts that reach back to the beginnings of the broadcast industry. The Company, through its many and varied operations, combines broad reach with well-positioned local businesses, all of which provide it with an extensive distribution network by which it serves audiences and advertisers in all 50 states and key international markets.

CNN
CNN (Cable News Netwotk) is based in Atlanta and is among the world's leaders in online news and information delivery. Staffed 24 hours, seven days a week, CNN.com relies heavily on CNN's global team of almost 4,000 news professionals.

FNC
FNC (Fox News Channel) is an American cable news and satellite channel owned by the Fox Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of News Corporation. As of April 2009, it is available to 102 million households in the U.S. and further to viewers internationally, broadcasting primarily out of its New York City studios.

NBC
A division of NBC Universal, NBC (National Broadcasting Company) owns and operates a United States television network, numerous cable networks, and local stations throughout the country.

MSNBC
MSNBC is a 24-hour cable news channel based in the United States and available in both the US and Canada. Its name is a combination of "MSN" and "NBC". The News channel is owned by Microsoft and NBC Universal. Msnbc.com, a separate company, is the news website for the NBC News family.

NPR
National Public Radio (NPR) is a privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organization that serves as a national syndicator to 797 public radio stations in the United States.

International Media

SABC
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is the state-owned broadcaster in South Africa and provides 18 radio stations (AM/FM) as well as 4 television broadcasts to the general public.

France24
FRANCE 24 is the international news channel providing world news coverage 24 hours a day via cable, satellite and online.

BBC
The BBC is the largest broadcasting corporation in the world. The BBC uses the income from the licence fee to provide services including 8 national TV channels plus regional programming, 10 national radio stations, 40 local radio stations and an extensive website.

EuroNews website
Euronews is a multilingual and pan-European television news channel covering world news from a European perspective and is distributed to 248 million households in 135 countries worldwide.

DW
Deutsche Welle or DW is Germany's international broadcaster. It broadcasts news and information on shortwave, Internet and satellite radio in 29 languages. It has a satellite television service that is available in four languages, and there is also a 30-language online news site

CBC
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), a Canadian crown corporation, is the country’s national public radio and television broadcaster

CNN-IBN is a partnership between Global Broadcast News (GBN), a Network18 Company, and Turner International (Turner) in India.

RT
RT, previously known as Russia Today, is a globally broadcast English-language news channel from Russia, and the first all-digital Russian TV network, sponsored by the state owned Russian news agency RIA-Novosti.

AP
The Associated Press is an American news agency. The AP is a cooperative owned by its contributing newspapers, radio and television stations in the United States, which both contribute stories to the AP and use material written by its staff journalists.

IPS
Inter Press Service is a global news agency. Its main focus is the production of independent news and analysis about events and processes affecting economic, social and political development.

Reuters
Reuters is a UK-based, Canadian-controlled news service and former financial market data provider that provides reports from around the world to newspapers and broadcasters.

European Alliance of Press Agencies
A group of around 30 leading European news agencies that have decided to pool their resources to create a common platform on key issues such as copyright, tariff policy, technology and access to sources of information.
