These databases index a range of publications from popular to scholarly. If the database allows this, consider checking the box limiting a search to scholarly or refereed journals.
Considerable relevant information is available in online and print publications from the Dept. of the Interior, EPA, the Census Bureau and so on.

Code
of Federal Regulations
Once a law is passed a specific agency is charged with establishing the regulations
to enforce it. The CFR contains the general and permanent rules published
in the Federal Register by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal
Government such as the EPA, NOAA, and the Fish and Wildlife Service. It is
divided into 50 titles that represent broad areas subject to federal regulation.

This website displays summaries of reports from NC State University
WRRI. Many of the reports cover water quality problems in North Carolina.
Reports are available for a few dollars each from NCSU or the Library may
be able to acquire a copy on Interlibrary Loan.

Links to state water quality information provided by the Cooperative

supply.
Agency
for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
This shows the 2003 report released concerning a survey of childhood
cancers and birth defects at Camp Lejeune, possibly as a result of chemicals
which contaminated the well water. The survey covers 12,600 children born
between 1968 and 1985.
