ERIC (EBSCO)

• Abstracts for about a million references to education and counseling journals (EJ) as well as published and unpublished educational materials such as school system reports, conference papers, research reports, and dissertations (ED)
• Most journals (EJ) accessible through the University Libraries
• Most ERIC Documents (ED) available on microfiche. Some recent ED numbers available in full text. Ask for assistance at the Reference Desk

• Covers articles from over a few thousand journals, some full text and most available at UNCG
• Key subjects: sociology, social psychology, ethnic and gender studies, marriage and family, social development, family conflict, etc.
• Sample topics: work-life balance, dual career couples, work-family conflict, division of labor
• Dates of coverage: varies but some as far back as 1895

• Covers materials relating to the growth and development of children through the age of 21

• Use this link to simultaneously search any of the 20+ EBSCO databases e.g. for career searches consider combining ERIC, Business Source Premier, SocIndex with Full Text and Academic Search Premier for articles on dual careers or combine ERIC and Business Source Premier for employment counseling of teenagers
• NB: In most cases the thesaurus and some of the other limiters will not be available

• Searches Education Full Text and Education Index Retrospective simultaneously

• Indexes several hundred English-language periodicals and yearbooks as well as some books

• Strong on educational and psychological topics covering all educational levels

• Advantages compared to ERIC: indexes most of the core education journals and many of them are full text. Disadvantages: subject headings are not as varied or clear as ERIC nor is the subject coverage as deep or varied so it can be hard to find the right terms to get articles on your topic.

• Dates of coverage: 1929 +; abstracts since 1994; full text since 1996

• Indexes thousands of peer-reviewed science and social science journals
• Covers K-12, higher, and special education, historical topics in the social sciences, substance abuse, school administration, counseling, educational psychology, and educational research
• No full text but links through Journal Finder to full text
• Citation database: references cited by the authors of the journal articles they cover. You can use these cited references as search terms
• Cited reference search: allows you to find articles from journals citing a book or an article
• Indexes articles, bibliographies, book reviews, editorials, letters, meeting abstracts, notes, review papers, reviews of software, and more
• Includes Social Sciences Citation Index and Science Citation Index

• Many of the tests are downloadable for a fee; however, if the contact information indicates the test is part of the Tests in Microfiche collection, that test usually is available in Jackson Library on microfiche LB1131 .T550 under the ETS tracking number
