  • Topics include history and ethnic relations, food and economy, social stratification, political life, socialization, religion, the arts, and more.
Worldmark Encyclopedia of Cultures and Daily Life
Reference GN333.W67 1998 (4 volumes)
  • This set covers over 500 cultures, listed in alphabetical order by region.
  • There is a country index in the front of each volume.
  • Most articles have twenty sections, including religion, interpersonal relations, living conditions, family life, food, education, work, and entertainment and recreation.

  • Provides excellent coverage of customs and business etiquette.
  • In addition to the "Customs, Etiquette, and Protocol" sections, also look over the "Living in..." and "Social Life" sections.

  • A statistical database provides 550 indicators for over 200 countries and 18 county groups, from 1960 to one year ago.
  • Covers social, economic, financial, natural resource, and environmental data.
  • Results can be exported into Excel or viewed as charts.

  • Provides retailing reports for many countries.
  • Also provide Consumer Lifestyles reports for many countries.
  • How valuable are these? Commerial rates for Euromonitor reports
  • Use the "Text Search" or "Browse Analysis" to find focused info quickly.
    • For a text search, try "retailing", "consumer lifestyles", or "clothing" with the name of your coutnry.

MintelMintel Market Research Reports

  • Provides retailing reports for European countries.
  • Also covers other channels, like e-commerce
  • Commercial rate prices

S&P NetAdvantageS&P NetAdvantage: Global Retailing Reports for Asia or Europe

  • Click on "Industries" along the top, and then "Global Industry Surveys" on the left.
  • You'll see "Retailing: Specialty " reports for Asia and Europe.

  • Includes industry & market reports from Datamonitor, Freedonia, Business Monitor International, and STAT-USA/NTDB Industry Sector Analysis (use the "Industries" section).
  • Example: who are the top apparel retailers in Australia?:

Osiris (public companies worldwide)

  • Provides detailed financials and descriptions of 55,000 US and international public companies.
  • You can use the Quick Search to search for companies by industry in certain companies.

Corporate Affiliations

  • Covers public and private companies from around the world.
  • Provides basic company profiles and corporate structures on 65,000 parent companies and 135,000 affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, and outside service firms.
  • Companies can be searched by name, location, SIC code, number of employees, personal name, products, and more.

LexisNexis Academic

  • Select "Business" from the red navigation bar.
  • Then use the "Create a Company List" to search for retailers in your target country.

3. Media

Europa World
  • Provides the recent history, government, economics, and other topics for every country and territory in the world.
  • Includes a "Directory of Society & Media" for each country.

Media Kits

  • Most publications (newspapers, magazines) that sell advertising space provide a media kit for potential advertisers.
  • The kit usually covers ad rates & sizes , circulation figures, etc.
  • Use Google to find these or look at the bottom of a publication's homepage.
