- Provides the recent history, government, economics, and other topics for every country and territory in the world.
- Includes a statistical survey (covering area and population, agriculture, industries, finance, external trade, principal trading partners, transportation, and more) and a detailed directory (listing government offices, media sources, trade associations, and more).
- Covers 50 countries, providing political analysis, economic analysis, and key economic data.
- Profiles of industries in those countries are also available.

- A famous source for basic country info.
- Covers history, government, economy, foreign relations, and more.
- The date of each country report varies, so be careful.

- A library database providing "how to do business" information for over 54 countries.
- Includes a "Operating Conditions" chapter, which covers economic conditions, and "Human Resources," covering labor.
- Change "Report Type" to "Country Commercial Guides" and select your country name.
- Look for a 2007 report.
- Chapter six, Investment Climate, covers labor.
- Created by the US International Trade Commission (Dept. of Commerce) to support US companies doing business in other countries.
Worldmark Encyclopedia of National Economies
- From the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
- Provides the full text of the 2007 edition of the encyclopedia.
- Covers 198 countries.
These next two databases allow you to create statistical tables for countries, if you need more data. You could also create charts or graphs from those tables within each database (with WDI, use the new interface).
Euromonitor Global Market Information Database
- Provides population and economic statistics for over 200 countries.
- Includes forecasts.
- Data can be downloaded into Excel.
World Development Indicators Online (WDI)
- A statistical database provides 550 indicators for over 200 countries and 18 county groups, from 1960 to one year ago.
- Covers social, economic, financial, natural resource, and environmental data.
- Results can be exported into Excel.
- From the World Bank.

- Provides excellent coverage of protocol, punctuality, negotiating, etc.

- Published annually.
- Provides excellent coverage of customs and business etiquette.
- In addition to the "Customs, Etiquette, and Protocol" sections, also look over the "Living in..." and "Social Life" sections.
Countries and Their Cultures
Reference GN307.C68 2001 (4 volumes)
- From the Gale Virtual Reference Library.
- Covers 225 countries.
- Topics include history and ethnic relations, food and economy, social stratification, political life, socialization, religion, the arts, and more.
Worldmark Encyclopedia of Cultures and Daily Life
Reference GN333.W67 1998 (4 volumes)
- This set covers over 500 cultures, listed in alphabetical order by region.
- There is a country index in the front of each volume.
- Most articles have twenty sections, including religion, interpersonal relations, living conditions, family life, food, education, work, and entertainment and recreation.
4. Trade Profile
- Provides summary and bilateral global trade data covering over 130 countries.
- Browse by country to see the trade snapshots, which include pie charts and tables.
- The trade data is based on SITC codes.

International Trade Centre (United Nations) Trade Statistics
- Imports by country
- Exports by country
- The trade data is organized by three-digit SITC code (the UN classification system for commodities/products).
5. Trade Tariffs & Barriers for US Importers
- Includes a "Foreign Trade" section covering import and export restrictions.
- Chapter 5 of each guide covers "Trade Regulations & Standards."
U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) Tariff Database
- You can search this database by product name (ex. hosiery) or HTS number.
- Provides tariff treatments as well as customs value of recent U.S. imports for consumption (with links for more data).
- Provides the harmonized code "chapters" in PDF format.
- Includes general and specific duty rates for each HTS code.
- Chapters 50-65 cover textiles and apparel.
