Anatomy and Development

The Heart: An Online Exploration - A basic look at how the heart develops and it's structures. This web site also, provides tips on heart health and a look back at the "history of heart science." Developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum with support from Unisys Corporation.

The Visible Human Project - The National Library of Medicine. The aim of the Visible Human Project is to create a digital image dataset of complete human male and female cadavers in MRI, CT and anatomical modes.

Virtual Embryo - a developmental biology tutorial. Includes links to additional developmental biology resources.

Virtual Frog Dissection Kit - This award-winning interactive program is part of the "Whole Frog" project. You can interactively dissect a (digitized) frog named Fluffy, and play the Virtual Frog Builder Game. The interactive Web pages are available in a number of languages.


Botany

American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta - "the professional association for public gardens in North America, supporting the public horticulture community in its mission to study, display and conserve plants."

Australian National Botanic Gardens - The Australian National Botanic Gardens, the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research, Australian Nature Conservation Agency, and links to other Australian Botanical resources.

Carnivorous Plant Database - "This database includes over 3000 entries giving an exhaustive nomenclatural synopsis of all Carnivorous Plants."

National Garden Association, Gardener's Dictionary & Plant Name Finder - Provides a horticultural dictionary and name finder that contains thousands of horticultural terms and common plant names. Scientific names of plants maybe found by entering common plant name.

Poisonous Plant Database (PLANTOX) - "a set of working files of scientific information about the animal and human toxicology of vascular plants and herbal products of the world."

Plant Gene Register - "An Electronic publication for articles describing the isolation and DNA sequence determination of plant genes." Includes full text searching.

PLANTS National Database - "provides a single source of standardized information about plants. PLANTS provides standardized plant names, symbols and other plant attribute information."

Conservation Biology - a clearinghouse for information on academic opportunities in Conservation Biology and related research.

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Living Planet Report 2002 - "The Living Planet Report seeks to present a quantitative picture of the sate of the world's natural environment and the human pressures upon it. Specifically, it presents WWF's Living Planet Index (LPI), a measure of the change in the health of the world's natural ecosystems since 1970, focusing on the earth's forest, freshwater, and marine biomes as these contain most of the earth's biodiversity."
