Use the Library Catalog to locate books and government documents held by The University Libraries. Books may be one of your easiest and best ways to find information. Use either Caribbean Area or West Indies as your search term. After you enter one of those terms in the search box, click on LC Subject (not Keyword). There are 8 pages of subdivisions for the term Caribbean Area. Scan the list for possibilities. When you find something that looks promising, to display citations for the books click on the word "titles" (underlined in blue) after the subject heading. Remember to use the bibliographies (footnotes) in these books to lead you to additional sources.

Databases are subject guides to magazines, journals, or newspapers. The following titles are suggested starting points.

To get to the complete list of databases, go to The University Libraries home page, click on Databases, then click on the starting letter of the database or name of a department which might offer classes related to your topic. Scan the list of suggested databases for that discipline to see if any of those are possibilities.

    --Click on News (red tab)
    --Enter your search terms e.g. type Caribbean inthe first search box and race relations in the second search box

    --You may want to be more specific e.g.. Choose a particular country and/or a particular racial issue

    --Click the blue arrow by Select Sources. You may want to select Major World Newspaper of Major World Publications
    --In the box by Specify Date select a time period from the pull-down menu
    --Click on the red Search box

    --To see a few lines from the full text, change View List to View Expanded List

    --To see the full text of the article, click on the article title

    --Note that the print, email, download, and export icons are towards the top right of the page
