Magazines
- Venerable fiction and poetry magazine published through UNCG, the poetry editor of which is the Poet Laureate of North Carolina, Fred Chappell.
- Good, old-fashioned, creepy Southern stuff.
- This Chapel Hill-based magazine publishes fiction, poetry, photography and reviews, with both online and print editions.
- This publication of UNC's Center for the Study of the American South is an enhanced version of the print edition.

Local Presses
- Founded by famed UNC professor Louis D. Rubin, Jr., this Chapel Hill-based press publishes a good deal of Southern fiction, but does not limit itself, dabbling in almost every field.
- Winston-Salem based publisher of books on the Southeastern United States, particularly North Carolina and Tennessee.
- This small but highly reputable press was a favorite of the late North Carolina Poet Laureate, Sam Ragan.
- The very busy press of the University of North Carolina, which publishes in almost every field.
