Back One Page
These instructions are intended as a guide to students and faculty to download and install the Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP version of the Acrobat Reader program necessary to view all UNCG E-Reserve documents. You may want to print these instructions and keep them nearby as you download and install the software.
Although these instruction may also help you to download and install Acrobat Reader for other operating systems, we highly recommend that you refer to Adobe Acrobat’s Support web site at:

for information related to your specific configuration.
Downloading Acrobat Reader
- Use your Internet Web browser (Netscape or IE) to go to the Acrobat Reader download page: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
- Verify that the version listed is for your operating system.
- Uncheck the items listed under "Also download:" unless you would like these programs also (which will increase the time to download and install the software).
- Click on the "download" button"
- A pop-up box, labeled "File Download - Security Warning " will ask you some options. If you want to install the software now, click on the "RUN" button (recommended). If you want to download the file to your computer to install later, click on the "SAVE" button.
- If you use the "RUN" download option, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the software. You're done!
-
If you chose to "SAVE" the file, save it in an easy-to-remember place, perhaps on your desktop or in a folder named "downloads". Then write down the name of the file so that you can find it in the next steps. You’re not done yet!. You still need to install the downloaded program.
- If you don’t know where the file was downloaded to on your PC, do a search to find it:
- Start - Find (or Search) - Files or Folders...
- Named: [type in the filename you wrote down here]
- Look in: Local hard drives
- Click on the Find Now (or Search) button.
The downloaded file should appear in the results window.
- Double-click on the file name in the results window to begin the installation process.
- Follow the on-screen directions to complete the installation.
- Close the Find window. The next time you open your Web browser (Netscape or IE), you should be able to view PDF documents on the Web.
