The University Libraries honors reciprocal borrowing and referral agreements from affiliated institutions. Photo ID is required and not transferrable. Home institution library account and registration/employment verification or letters of referral are required when applying to borrow. All borrowers are subject to the policies of and for returning borrowed items to the UNCG University Libraries.
The University Libraries participates in reciprocal borrowing agreements for students, faculty, and staff through the UNC system and TALA (Triad Academic Library Association); and for faculty only through the OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program. Information regarding how to borrow through these agreements appears below.
Letters of referral to borrow materials from other libraries in the area, including the Greensboro Public Library, may be accepted at the Jackson Library Access Services Desk. Please inquire at the Desk as to whether or not your home library participates.
Middle and High school students attending Guilford County Schools should inquire in the school Media Center about referral letters to the University Libraries. Picture ID is required. If the student has none, a parent or guardian with picture ID must be present.
Guilford County Schools employees may apply for a borrower's card by presenting school or other photo ID and proof of employment for the current academic year. We will also accept a letter of referral from your Media Center librarian.
Members of the UNCG Friends of the Library may borrow books by presenting a photo ID and valid Friends of the Library card. A Friends of the Library membership card may be obtained for $25 from the University Libraries Administrative Offices, which are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further information, you may call the Administrative Offices at (336) 334-5880. Friends of the Library may renew books online twice by accessing Renew Items/My Account.
Members of University Gift Clubs may apply for borrowing privileges with a valid letter issued by the Office of Advancement Services, phone # (336) 334-5988. The Alumni Association is not included in these Gift Clubs.
Permanent residents of Greensboro needing materials unavailable through the services of the Greensboro Public Library may apply for a written referral at the main branch of the Greensboro Public Library to borrow materials from the University Libraries on a one-time basis. The referral is limited to two items and must include exact titles.
Visiting scholars engaged in study or research but not affiliated with an institution with which UNCG has a reciprocal borrowing agreement may apply to the Head of Access Services for possible borrowing privileges.
Nurses who precept UNCG students may apply for borrowing privileges. Current preceptor status must be verified. Contact the Library Liaison to the School of Nursing for more details.
