Laptop Checkout
Forty Dell Latitude D630 Laptops are available for check out at the Check Out Desk in Jackson Library and the Music Desk in the Music Library.
Laptop loans are limited to UNCG students, faculty and staff.
Laptops include power cables, batteries, and DVD R/RW drives. Carrying cases are provided for those loaned for use outside of the Libraries.
These laptops can access the UNCG-Faculty/Staff/Student wireless network; users may login to their UNCG Novell accounts. Windows XP is the operating system. Software available is the same as provided on the library computers that require Novell login.
- 20 laptops are available in Jackson Library for 4 hours loan inside the
library; 1 in the Music Library.
- 15 laptops are available in Jackson Library for 1 week loan outside the
library; 4 in the Music Library.
- Laptops are loaned on a first come, first serve basis. Picture ID is required. Users are limited to the checkout of 1 laptop at a time.
- Laptops checked out for 4 hours may be renewed at the lending desk only if another eligible borrower is not waiting to use a laptop.
- Laptops checked out for 1 week loan are not eligible for renewal.
- A request to be next in line to borrow a 7 Day Laptop can be placed at the Access Services Desk. Requests cannot be placed online.
- The first time the each borrower borrows a laptop, s/he must sign a borrowing
agreement which details the terms of laptop loans and the specifics regarding
responsibilities assumed by accepting these loans which include the following:
- Overdue fines for 4 Hour Loans are $10.00 per hour or portion thereof overdue; calculated 24/7 until returned or replaced with no maximum and no grace period.
- Overdue fines for 1 Week Loans are $40.00 per day; calculated 24/7 until returned or replaced with no maximum and no grace period.
- Replacement Costs are: laptop $2000.00; power cable $130.00; battery $250.00; DVD R/RW drive $150.00; carrying case $80.00.
- Damage Charges are determined by the replacement cost of replacement parts, and time spent making repairs.
- Laptops must be returned to the desk from which they are borrowed; they should never be put into a book drop!
The UNCG “Acceptable
Use of Computing and Electronic Resources Policy” and the University Libraries
govern the use of the laptops in the checkout program.
