The main handicapped-accessible
entrance to Jackson Library is located at the connector entrance that extends
between the library and the Elliott Center. A ramp extends the length of the
connector corridor between the library and the Elliott Center for easy access
to both facilities.
A secondary handicapped-accessible entrance to Jackson Library is located
on the north side of the tower facing the service drive area between the library
and the dining hall. Handicapped parking is available in the loading dock
area at the end of the service drive. A call button is provided at the secondary
entrance to alert the library’s security guard to unlock the door. Patrons
using this door must stop by the Access Services Desk prior to leaving
the library.
Group study rooms and Collaboratories are available for people who have readers helping them with assignments. If the group study rooms are in use, Access Services Desk staff will locate another suitable room in the Library for persons with disabilities.
The Library's collection of spoken word material and listening equipment as well as a large print edition of the New York Times is located in the Reading Room. A large screen monitor in the Reference Department is available for the visually impaired.
Assistance for people with special needs is provided primarily by Access Services Desk staff. Other Library personnel also offer assistance when possible. It is helpful for patrons needing assistance to make an appointment with Access Services staff prior to arrival, especially on nights or weekends.
