Open carrels may be assigned to graduate students and faculty who require space for research purposes. The carrels distributed on the eight stack levels of the tower are assigned for the academic term...Fall, Spring, or Summer. Carrels may also be assigned to undergraduates in the Honors Program with a letter from that program.
All library material left in a carrel must be checked out at the Access Services Desk. A carrel loan slip is placed in each book to identify it as being charged to a specific carrel; each slip must remain with its book. If a carrel holder wishes to take a carrel book from the building, it must be recharged to the carrel holder's personal account at the Access Services Desk.
Carrel loan books are checked out to the carrel, not to the patron. All carrel loans are for the academic term. Carrel loans are fine exempt. Carrel holders are responsible for renewing their carrels. If carrels are not renewed, books charged to those carrels will be removed and checked in by Library personnel.
Carrel loan books are subject to recall after the first three weeks of being charged to a carrel. Carrel loan books requested for Reserve are subject to immediate recall at all times. Recalled books will be removed from a carrel by Library personnel. Patrons will be notified when material is removed.
Books charged for use outside of the building, as well as any personal materials or items of value, should not be left in carrels.
Carrels are checked regularly by the staff. Any uncharged books or Building Use Only materials (such as bound journals) found at reserved carrels will be removed and reshelved. The Library is not responsible for personal property or overdue books left in carrels.
To retain your carrel for next term, renew it online using Renew Item/My Account or at the Access Services Desk. Carrels are otherwise cleared at the end of the academic year and at the end of each term.
If you do not wish to retain your carrel for the next term, simply clear it by the due date.
UNCG students and faculty may request the use of lockers for either each term. Lockers may be reserved at the Access Services Desk, simply present a valid UNCG ID. Lockers and locker contents are checked regularly by library staff. No food or drink, overdue books, Building Use Only materials, or uncharged books may be stored in lockers.
To retain your locker for next term, renew it online using Renew Item/My Account or at the Access Services Desk. Lockers are otherwise cleared at the end of each term.
If you do not wish to retain your locker for the next term, simply clear it by the due date.
