Mission
The Access Services Department connects University Libraries patrons with library collections, spaces, and technology. The department provides Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, Desktop Delivery, and Reserves services, and the Stacks and Remote Storage operations
responsible for maintaining the library's book and periodical collections.
Goals
- Provide timely, quality customer service to all library users
- Ensure that library collections remain accessible to all library users
- Maintain a friendly, helpful, public contact point for all library users
- Work with University faculty to deliver quality course Reserve materials
- Maintain lending policies and practices that support the needs of all library users
- Assist library users with locating, borrowing, requesting, and returning library materials
- Provide library users with safe and inviting spaces for research, reflection, collaboration, and relaxation
Objectives
- Integrate Interlibrary Loan services and work flows into the Access Services department
- Review and recommend billing procedures for UNCG faculty loans
- Review and recommend UNCG staff and graduate student loan periods
- Explore implementation of a book delivery service to UNCG faculty
- Work with other Libraries’ departments to develop and deliver a customer service training program for Libraries staff and student employees
- Formally assess Access Services Department services
- Investigate additional technologies for the Libraries’ lending program
- Publicize self-check and increase users by 15% during 2009-10 academic year
