<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Catherine "Kay" Cox (b. 1922) of <geogname>Salem, Massachusetts</geogname>, attended <corpname>Radcliffe College</corpname> in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  She joined the WAC (Women's Army Corps) in August 1943, and was stationed at the Second WAC Training Center in <geogname>Daytona, Florida</geogname>.  In early 1944, Cox was transferred to <corpname>Stark General Hospital</corpname> in Charleston, South Carolina.  Cox was assigned to <geogname>Mobile, Alabama</geogname>, in April 1944, where she worked as a recruiter for the WAC until the end of the war.

<head>Collection Overview</head>
<p>The collection contains approximately fifty <genreform>letters</genreform> written by Cox to Robert W. Curwen (1921-2008), a friend in the U.S. Army Air Forces, during World War II.   The letters contain information on Cox's duties in the WAC and her thoughts on the U.S. Army. Included is a copy of the 14 March 1944 <title render="doublequote">Pill Pusher</title>, the newspaper of the <corpname>Stark General Army Hospital</corpname>in <geogname>Charleston, South Carolina</geogname>.
