<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>
<persname>Mary Elizabeth Partridge</persname> of <geogname>Mt. Airy, North Carolina</geogname>, was born on 24 November 1912.  She attended the <corpname>Woman's College of the University of North Carolina</corpname> (now UNCG) and graduated in 1935 with a bachelor of science degree in <subject>physical education</subject>.  Following graduation, Partridge was employed as a physical education teacher in Durham, North Carolina.
</p>
<p>Partridge joined the <subject>American Red Cross</subject> (ARC) in 1943.  During her career with the ARC, Partridge was stationed in <geogname>Algeria</geogname>, <geogname>France</geogname>, <geogname>Italy</geogname>, <geogname>Germany</geogname>, and <geogname>Guam</geogname>, as well as various locations in <geogname>Texas</geogname> and <geogname>South Carolina</geogname>.</p>
