COLLECTION OVERVIEW: This collection contains letters and postcards from Arline E. Furstman, a Navy WAVE, to an acquaintance named Shirley Leffher in Jamaica, Long Island. The correspondence primarily details Furstman's off-duty activities and gives sparse glimpses into the life of a WAVE. Her letters mention her duties while in service, reactions to VJ Day, a broadcast at her naval station by Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, and the 1945 airplane crash into the Empire State Building.
